Alright!!!

When I got home today, let's say about a quarter past two, I found a package at my doorstep. This package contained - TA-DA - My artwork!!! So now I have some tinkering to do. Cut, paste and sew… 100 demos… Oh my!!! What have I gotten myself into???
This means - Any day now there will be a "package" on your "doorstep" as well! Niklas (my sister's husband) is the one to thank. He's the one who made the final print possible so again, Niklas. THANK YOU!

Hold on to your scissors, glue, needles and threads 'cause here I come!

Spam, spam, spam

Hi Guys!
I've been having problems with spam recently so I've changed my spam settings. In this case it means that you won't be able to see your comment until I have approved of it.
Anneke:
I guess that's why I had four posts from you a day ago or so ;-) Thank you by the way!

All in all - I hope this won't prevent you all from commenting - as I L-O-V-E comments!

Here's a picture of spam for you all - Not computer spam - REAL spam ;-)

SPAM, SPAM, SPAM

Sara

Well, wadda ya know!!!

The paper that I bought with my last 200 Swedish kronor and the paper that the store said I could print my artwork on - melted in the printer. I guess the store lied...
But but do not mistrust, my dear readers!
It'll get sorted out. Somehow...

In the meantime - check out this funny bunny!

http://www.albinoblacksheep.com/flash/bunny.php

I usually don't post stuff like this but when you compare melting paper in a printer to the bunny's problem - Well, I guess you kind of reconsider... ;-)

Still Printing...

Waiting. Waiting. Waiting. Waiting. Waiting. Waiting. Waiting. Waiting. Waiting. Waiting. Waiting. Waiting.
Still printing... I hope it won't take too long - but it's all in their hands at the moment.
Hold on...
/Sara

Progress!!!

I just wanted to let you all know that I have found a printer! The details will hopefully be printed next week so - depending on the postal service - just maybe - we may have them within two weeks!!!

Thank you Niklas!

Very hopeful indeed,
Sara

NEW DEMO

new demo out!!!

Yes it's true. My new demo is finally here!!!

The demo includes the song "at least like melissa" and I can promise you that the other songs have followed in the same footsteps.

"jupiter and i" - a "orchestrated" song with a time ticking clock telling about struggles against something bigger than yourself. Click here to download or get over to my MySpace and stream it and other songs! Thanx to Magnus Bjerkert for lending me server space!

"wicked autumn kiss" - the longing and wanting to be somewhere else - where autumn is ok - but autumn is also something darker and it hides amongst the trees - breathing down your collar.

"wolflike they are" - a song for two parties. One is told to keep their wolves inside - The other is told to shut off and run - but is stuck in it all.

"i bleed you tonight" is a love song from a warm heart in a cold place.

I sincerely hope that you will enjoy it!!! And PLEASE!!! LEAVE A COMMENT!!! ;-)
Love,
Sara

#"&%¤"/#&¤%?!

I'M SO SORRY!!!
Two months ago I really thought my new demo would be out and circulating by March 16th
It's freckin' irritating, frustrating and annoying. Problems are all over the place. All I really need to do is print the covers. First I thought that I could run them through an ordinary printer but NOOO… I will probably need to hire a professional printer or something so the colors look good. I had such bad feelings before 'cause my covers looked sooo boring and ordinary so this time I thought I'd do something special… But there is a price you have to pay and at this time I really don't have that much money. I'll get some soon but I don't have it now… And I'm going to manage to pull this through - just so you know it - And Don't Forget It!
As soon as the papers are printed I'll put a song out there for you - Here or on my MySpace. We'll just have to wait and see…
I really hope that you aren't getting bored with me…
Anyway. Here is a miniature of one of my cover details (let's call it an appetizer ;-):

Stuff

Today is a day where I feel like everything is hopeless and that the forces in the music world of Sweden are against me. That's when I turn to good memories - my safe places.
One recent safe place is when Lisa Wall @ Casino P4 (Swedish Public Radio Channel 4) played "My Newborn Name (Duet with David Fridlund)". This weeks Joker - this weeks demo - Lisa Wall states:
"Sara and David have the experience of singing together - but here their voices are opposed. And it is so obviously Sara's own (sound) - not David as a solo artist or David & the Citizens - Welcome Sara"!
Other than Lisa - Sweden is a cold place right now. Not because of the snow but because of the silence…
You people out there familiar with the Swedish language visit the joker page
here.

Another safe place is in my music. The songs are now completely done. I've been having issues with the art work but hopefully I'll get it sorted out ASAP…

I appreciate your every single visit to this blog. It would be nice to read more comments - then I can see you as something more than the statistics when I log in...

It's a lonely job but hey, I got to do it - otherwise I'll be a no one to myself.

From me to me - shut the whining and get back to work…

Kiss and good day to you all,

Sara

Soon, soon, soon

I'm getting there. Three channels left. All of them supposedly filled with vocals. Gonna try a printer. Photo printer. Hopefully beautiful cover. Need sleep now. Play late gig tomorrow with David. Life continuing. Same sad sighs. More glow today though... Therefore three channels left. All of them supposedly filled with vocals - before Monday.

You'll get demo soon. Me tired now. Goodnight. Sleep tight. Don't let the bedbugs bite.

/Sara

The saddest things...

…are unfortunately dancing around me/us right now. Two have past into shadow and one will barely be able to see the light of tomorrow. Why does the sun shine on the darkest days? Is it to show us every single beautiful, existing thing or is it plain mocking? Spring flowers opening them selves up and letting their petals out. Life. Continuing. The continuity of breath… Like the machinery that never stops… Be still and you'll see that everything keeps going. Watch the world go round. You're the center of your existence. No wonder that people, in the olden days, thought that the universe evolved around this tiny planet. One is always alone - even when in company. One will always live life alone. No one can ever live your life for you. The hurt is yours alone even so the happiness… But all can be shared when understood… I love spring but somehow it's always been the part of the year when life gets tough…

 32146-24

I can't say that I'm in the recording mood I'm supposed to be in. In these moments it's usually about keeping with it all. Today and yesterday weren't those days. I'm trying to get this demo ready. I feel the pressure and it needs to be done. I'm so close to the finish line but I think I'll have to take it one day at a time. I'm tired.

Today I'll go and exchange some dollars (demo money) to be able to buy some of the stuff for the cover work. I really hope you'll like it.

One day at a time.

XO
/Sara

A Small Recording Update

After a little computer break and chat with a friend of mine I decided to write a small little recording update.

Got to get back to the porta studio - got to get back to the porta studio - say, "f**k you" to one of the songs 'cause it's not really cooperating with me right now... Start a new one - it's really a clean and quiet song compared to the others... so this'll be what my ears need right now. They are just sooo fed up with this one song. It's kind of fun - working on a lot of songs simultaneously. I usually tend to over work on one song - finish it and then move on - but this time it's different. I can easily drop one song when I get tired or my ears go all numb and gracefully move on to a new and fresh song. So right now I hate "Wicked Autumn Kiss" but I'll hopefully love working with "I Bleed You Tonight" for a while.

All in all - three songs are totally done - One is one second from being finished - One is in the finishing.

By for now,
Sara

On The Radio

Around 8.40 PM this Sunday evening Lisa Wall (radio show host for Casino) played "My New Born Name" - Taken from my 2003 Five Song Demo. It was great to hear oneself on the air! Finally!!! Thank you Lisa! Every week Casino issues a theme called the Joker where they choose a band or a solo artist that deserves the attention and the ears of listeners.
If you feel like it, you should
click here and listen to the show.
Thank you again Lisa!

Stay true,
Sara

Sara Culler on Swedish Public Radio Channel 4

32146-23

The radio show Casino, on Swedish public radio channel 4, will play me on their broadcast this coming Sunday! The show airs at 7.30 (Central European Time) and has a total of 3.5 hours of airtime. This will probably be the first time ever for any Swedish radio station to play me so tune in if you're in the country or click on the link
here for Casino's homepage and listen after broadcasting.  Too Late - New Show.
For you non-Swedes:
To the left where it says Del 1, Del 2 Del 3 & Del 4 - This means - Part 1, Part 2, Part 3 & Part 4. This is where you listen. Listen to the whole show - They play great music - From unheard acts like me to more heard of acts like The Radio Dept. and David Fridlund and to even more heard of acts like Richard Thompson and Van Morrison!
So. Tune in, turn off or drop out!

The Demo Process:
Details on two songs are now in the finishing.
Artwork is done but… What shape will it take? THAT, my friends, that is THE question!
More to come ;-)

Sincerely,
Sara

Bereft.

How long does it take before you realize that someone is gone? Not out the door or on a holiday - just gone - ceased to exist.
How long will it take before the online telephone directory will erase the telephone number - I haven't erased it from my cell phone - My dear friend hasn't even erased it from her own cell phone - She is still thinking of calling to see if it still has a voice message so that she can hear the voice again - Is the voice still there?
There was a flight scheduled to the Capitol City that night - Someone took an earlier flight.
A dark road. Two cars. One angel.
My dear friend won't forget. She may have a scattered mind but she won't forget. Memories may fade - but you can never forget.

32146-22

Suddenly things don't seem that important. I mean it's been more than a week but you are ok. It's hard but your ok. My wishes still count in my own world because they don't stop existing. Things move on. Life is short and you got to work hard and fast for your wishes to come true so…

My Shallow Wishes:
I wish I had band members so I could present my songs as they are and not alone with a guitar and playback…
I wish I could release a CD so that I could thank all of you…
I wish to hear my music on the radio…
I wish someone would sign me...
I wish of lots of other things…

It's just Saturday again and nothing to do, no money to spend and no TV to watch (shitty shows & movies). I can even feel happy when I think of how painless these issues are… That's right. Remember to be happy. Life is too short - remember to smile :-)

Love,
Sara

Preoccupation

To update the recording situation:
I've been preoccupied with things.
First of all - one of the songs - Wolflike They Are - got into trouble by being in the wrong key when I was supposed to add vocals and finalize the whole deal……… I went blank and had to leave it all behind for a while but now I'm back in action and will finalize the recording ASAP.
Secondary - I've been in the studio with David & the Citizens - adding some vocals and also one or two ideas… Their sound has evolved and changed - in a good way. Davids song writing is one factor. The fact that Andreas Söderlund (of Niccokick and Sounds Like Violence) has done a great job producing, is another.

32146-21

A promise:
Will get back to you as soon as the finishing is near… Those of you who have had e-mail contact with me
will receive an e-mail. Those of you who wish to receive an e-mail, e-mail me at:

sara (at) thecitizens (dot) nu

Keep with me here.
Love,
Sara

The Recording Process

More than half way through recording the new demo. Sounds weird.
I have discovered something about my recording process - It never turns out the way I intended. The thing is; I have this picture and vague melody in my head whilst writing the songs. The form and figure is there but very faint. So. When I start to record the songs I start to wonder what the hell am I creating?! I keep asking myself what it is that's exiting my head in the shape of a song 'cause I don't recognize the tangible song from the one I pictured in my head when writing. Am I making any sense?
Well. The bass yesterday. I just did it impressionistically instead of following a melody already made up. Suddenly it was there, channel 4 on my porta studio.
This THING, this situation kind of makes it hard for me to be excited about my new songs because I never know how they will end up. I'm always criticizing and analyzing them. More now than ever before. I really became aware of this phenomenon whilst being in the process of "At Least Like Melissa" and that song turned out to be one of my favorite songs so I'm not really worried, just confused.
The tracks I'm recording:

  • Jupiter and I
  • Wolflike They Are
  • Wicked Autumn Kiss
  • I Bleed You Tonight
Thanx to David for adding analog drums on two of the songs. I love you always.

So anyway. I'm on schedule and I will probably have the new demo out within two weeks.
"At Least Like Melissa" will be on it.
I hope you'll be here when it's done.

Sincerely,
Sara

You About Me In 2005

It's a New Year and we call it 2006. There is a melancholic feel to the beginning of a New Year. It feels lonely, Grey and translucent as if it is what it really is - Filled with nothing. Yet. It's like a cold and damp engine of an older car - It stutters and coughs before it warms up. If you give it time it will run smoothly if not… As the year grows into itself it fills up - On occasions even overflows. 2005 didn't exactly overflow, nor was it a hopelessly boring year. It was somewhere in-between. In this post I'd like to give thanks and appreciation to the bloggers who in some kind of way have supported me and sent people my way.
Oh. I hope I won't forget anyone…

SwedesPlease
Craig Bonell wrote about me early. In April 2005, connecting to what I think was the American release of David Fridlunds solo album Amaterasu. Amaterasu featured an EP, White Van and on that EP was my own "Days That Can Be Ours" from Five Song Demo. Craig posted "Days That Can Be Ours" plus the rendition of the Pixies song, "Wave of Mutilation", that David and I collaborated on for the album "La La Love You Pixies! A Tribute".
In November 2005 I started this blog. Craig posted "Lies of Justice House" and wrote some nice suggestions…

*Six Eyes
Alan Williamson posted "Lies of Justice House" as Morning Music: Something to wake up to… The next honorable post was when he featured "At Least Like Melissa" as SixPack 150 (six downloads in one pack - a SixPack). He also mentioned me "joining the legions" of MySpace.

Fingertips Music
Jeremy Schlosberg started by mentioning me in his surf report. Just a few days ago I received an e-mail. I am honored to be featured on his "This Weeks Finds" (three songs each week) plus a very nice, first, real review!

Gorilla Vs Bear
Chris Cantalini found me via his own blog. A reader had posted a tip and the tip was about me. Since Chris lives in Dallas and I lived in Dallas when I was a kid we had some stuff in common like the fact that he lives just two blocks away from my old job - The Dixie House (read more here).
Anyway Chris has been very kind and written som nice stuff about me. His first post was "Lies of Justice House" and "Blackbird Duet" and also gave a nice hint to the readers… He also forwarded my Christmas gift, "At Least Like Melissa" and posted it December 22nd - I thought that was a nice Christmas gift - Getting posted that is.

Thank you all sooo much!

All the bloggers above are linked to the right - Yes, that's right. To the right under links!

There has also been some heart warming mentioning on other sites. Thanks to all of you who have made my blogging worth while! If you have written anything about me that you want me to read please leave a comment below and I'll get over to you ASAP. I really love comments so you can leave some even if you haven't been blogging about me. I like you because you visit me here - That means just as much!

Better Early Than Late

It's like this. I have gone and joined a couple of million people and created myself a MySpace! This is something I've been struggling against for a long time - about as long a time as when I struggled against bloggs…

On
my MySpace I will have stuff that are exclusive for MySpace, like new songs that I really don't feel like giving away… … … Well, I know. It's cheap. But my demos are cheap too ;-) The selling of my demos can really make a difference you see. First of all - I do not have any other job than this (although I would like a part time job…). The demos I sell is therefore my only income and to make it possible for me to continue making music and burning demos I need to keep some of the songs unavailable for downloads. Well… So that you might want to buy my demos and support the "starving" artist I am ;-)

Anyway. You can now run over to my MySpace and check out some songs that haven't been available for downloading and therefore are "fresh" to the ears who haven't bought my demos or heard of me at all! PLEASE! Don't be mad at me. Be glad. I am. Glad that you exist ~ 'Cause without you I would only be talking to walls…

Hugs,
Sara
